Christchurch Eye on community booklet publisher Phil Cowan, left, donates $3500 to Blenheim Blue Light Venture Trust members Senior Constable Russ Smith, centre, Senior Constable Dean Buckley, second from right, and trust treasurer Andrea Cunliffe.
Blenheim's Blue Light Venture Trust is $3500 better off after a generous donation from the Christchurch publisher of a crime prevention booklet.
Eye on Communities publisher Phil Cowan, of Markat, handed over the cheque to Blue Light Venture Trust member Senior Constable Russ Smith.
The funds were made possible by advertising revenue generated from the crime prevention booklet which is distributed nationwide, Cowan said.
The money will be used to help various Blue Light Venture activities planned this year for youth in Blenheim.
Five thousand copies of the 50-page booklet are available through Neighbourhood Support groups to the Blenheim community. The booklet is designed to help people in need find support organisations in the community.
There are thousands of ways people's lives can become disrupted, either through poor health, natural disasters or being victims of crime, said Cowan.
The booklet provides useful tips from various support organisations, including Women's Refuge, Citizens Advice or Neighbourhood Support groups.
Smith said the generous funding was welcomed by the group.
It is difficult at the best of times to find funding and this cheque will enable some surety for us that the trust can go ahead and organise a number of activities for youth in Blenheim this year.
Blue Light Venture organise activities such as under-age "rages" and camps designed to develop social and leadership skills for youth.
The booklet will be put in a 'goodies' bag and given to all secondary school students during Youth Week to be held between May 23-31.
